University isn’t for everyone and despite what they might tell you at school, there are avenues that you can explore without a degree. Not all roles require a degree, and you can secure a great, well-paid job without one!
It’s worth noting that not all businesses are the same, and while some companies may not require a degree for a role, others might – it’s down to the individual company to decide in some cases.
We’ve compiled a list with some of the roles we currently have available, and some more general roles that often don’t require a degree.
1. Personal assistant
American rom-coms may have completely tarnished your idea of what a PA (personal assistant) looks like.
On the screen, it’s all bringing coffee’s and walking your bosses’ yappy Pomeranian. We assure you, this is not what the role entails.
Personal assistants have a number of different responsibilities, from managing calendars and schedules to attending meetings and helping with admin work.
The good news is that majority of PA roles don’t require a degree, but value organisation, computer skills, good time management, great multi-tasking and so on.
Average salary according to our Value Your Vacancy tool:

2. Electrician
The responsibilities of an electrician vary from role to role and can include anything from maintenance, repairs, replacements, and advice.
Many of the companies recruiting for electricians will be looking for GCSE’s or equivalents in core subjects. What they don’t require however is a degree. With a lot of electrician roles, on-the-job training is often provided.

3. Administrative assistant
We recruit for lots of different admin roles with responsibilities ranging from answering phones and greeting customers to documentation and organisation.
The exact nature of your role as admin support will be dependant on the company you’re hired by. However, a common theme with these roles is that employers are more interested in your experience rather than a degree.

4. Project engineer
Your responsibilities as a project engineer will be dependant on the industry that you’re working in, but they often include the implementation of technical solutions, troubleshooting and installation.
Like electricians, on the job training is often provided in engineering roles, with many employers opting for practical experience and skills.
Some engineering roles, such as chemical engineers, may need a degree due to the nature of the work. Other engineers such as IT or project are more likely to be assessed on experience.
