Creative Sector flying high

A fantastic boost to the industry- according to official government statistics. The UK creative sector has benefited from more than £850 million in support in the last year.
The sector was supported by such an impressive sum, through tax relief, helping the industry to boost growth across the country.
This news follows a report from the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport which revealed that the sector grew by 28.6% since 2011- a level three times the rate of the UK economy- and currently bolsters the economy by employing 6% of all workers in the UK.
Last year, the sector also received two funding boosts which helped to bolster its growth. The Creative Industries Sector deal allocated £150 million to the sector. While a £20 million fund for culture and creative industries targeted growing the economy in UK towns and cities.
In Sheffield too, growth can be seen. Rob Shaw Managing Director at Glu Recruit said: “Over the last year Sheffield as seen an increase in new creative start-ups, as well as a host of successes for existing businesses.
“Just this week, a Sheffield-based creative agency won a national contract with LEGOLAND. This is just one of many examples of how we’re starting to forge a reputation for creative excellence and innovation.
“It’s great to see so much support from the government too. The support from tax returns and funding boosts will no doubt shape the industry tremendously. Hopefully this will cement the UK’s position as a world leader in the sector.”
