Creative sector grew at twice the rate of the UK economy in 2017

The UK’s creative industry grew impressively in 2017 at twice the rate of the economy and generating £101.5bn, up from £94.8bn in the previous year.

According to figures release by the Department for Digital, Media, Culture and Sport, the TV, music and advertising industries grew at nearly twice the rate of the UK economy

This recent growth is the latest development in the industry’s booming growth trajectory, which has risen by 53.1% (66.3bn) since 2010, and accounts for 5.5% of the UK’s GVA.

Rob Shaw, Managing Director at Glu Recruit said: “These figures indicate the huge importance the creative sector plays in the wider UK economy.

“In recent years the industry has grown exponentially, and this looks to continue.

“The UK is now ‘on the map’ for its creative prowess and on a local scale too. Sheffield currently employs 35,000 people in the sector and creative companies like Evoluted, Born and Raised, Diva and Jaywing in the steel city are doing particularly well. We’re also seeing an uptick in demand for recruitment, which shows the sector really is going for growth.”
