Role: Assistant CAD Design Manager

Salary: £35,000-£45,000 Per Annum DOE

Location: Barnsley

Hours/Working Pattern: Monday – Thursday 08:00–17:00, Friday 08:00–16:00

The role:

The Assistant Design Manager will support the Design & Engineering Manager in the coordination, development, and delivery of structural design work, ensuring designs are produced safely, accurately, and in line with relevant design codes, company standards, and programme requirements. This role provides a strong development pathway for an experienced design engineer looking to progress into management responsibility. 

Duties:

• Prepare and assist with structural calculations, designs, and design reports in line with relevant standards
• Support design coordination with Clients, Consultants, and internal Project Managers
• Review and assist in the checking of CAD drawings produced by CAD Technicians, including: General arrangement drawings, Reinforcement and concrete detailing, Fabrication and steelwork drawings, Schedules and quantities
• Help manage design information and ensure timely delivery in line with project programmes
• Assist with resolving design-related queries arising during manufacture and construction
• Attend design meetings where required, alongside senior team members
• Provide general technical and administrative support to the Design & Engineering Manager
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of design processes and standards

Key responsibilities

• Full technical design responsibility for all structural elements of cylindrical in-situ reinforced concrete contracts and cylindrical bolted sectional contracts, including production of structural designs and calculations to relevant design codes (BS8007, BS8110, BS5395 etc.) for bases, walls, roofs and ancillary items
• Design liaison with Clients to achieve design approval, including attendance at design meetings with Clients and/or Consultants as required
• Supervision and checking work of CAD Technicians to ensure production of project drawings/details to required standards and timescales, including general arrangement, reinforcement and pipework drawings, fabrication drawings, reinforcement bar bending schedules, and other material schedules
• Liaison with Project Managers and site personnel to resolve construction issues
• General design/engineering support to Design and Engineering Manager and Managing Director

The successful candidate:

Will be experienced in 2D and 3D Cad design/drawings. You will have experience of working with both steel and concrete and have worked in the construction, civils, utilities or manufacturing industry.
