Role: Import Operator

Salary: £28,000 – £30,000 DOE

Location: Rotherham

Hours: Monday – Friday (9am till 5.30pm)

The role:

  • To offer a high standard of customer service to both internal and external customers, by providing accurate and appropriate information and demonstrating a professional, helpful and positive manner.
  • To collate all the necessary information, to ensure all jobs are correctly and accurately processed and profitably charged out.
  • To keep control of jobs, through effective liaison with colleagues, overseas correspondents, hauliers and customers and ‘order progressing’ when required.
  • To contribute to branch revenue through internal sales and promoting additional services offered by the Company.
  • To provide and follow up quotations with customers as required, maximising shipment profitability.
  • To efficiently and effectively plan loads to achieve maximum profit and pay load, plan off loads economically and work with other branches to co-load, off-load and distribute where necessary.
  • To demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of Customs regulations and Dangerous Goods rules, adhere to these procedures and be capable of providing advice on these and specific Country requirements to customers when necessary.
  • To liaise with customs staff when required, providing them with accurate information to ensure imports are quickly cleared, in accordance with customer’s requirements.
  • To administer jobs accurately and efficiently in accordance with the Company’s accounting procedures.
  • To alert the Manager of any pending claims and collate information to process any claims promptly and professionally, in accordance with Company procedures.
  • To deal with any communication into and out of the branch in a customer focused professional manner.
  • To build and maintain effective business relationships with colleagues throughout the business, working closely with the Warehouse regarding loading/off-loading instructions to ensure the customer’s requirements are met.
  • To ensure that all activities operate within the companies’ policies and procedures and to demonstrate a commitment to these through their own working practices.
  • To ensure that all documentation, records and systems are accurate and kept up to date.
  • To prepare and present information for the company’s management team as required.
  • To comply with the Health and Safety statement and the Q.I procedures in all areas of responsibility.
  • To carry out such other duties as are within the scope and spirit of the job purpose and level of responsibility and offer support to other departments when required

The successful candidate:

  • Experience in Transport / Logistics/ Movement of freight (essential)
  • Experience of working in a customer service environment both face to face & over the phone (essential)
  • Excellent Customer Care
  • Excellent organisation skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent IT Computer skills
