Location: Rotherham

Salary: Up To £32,000 Per Annum DOE

The Role:

An opportunity has arisen to join an expanding Payroll team as a Payroll Officer. This is a hands-on role suited to an experienced payroll professional who is confident managing end-to-end payroll processes while also contributing to the continuous improvement of payroll services and systems.

You will manage payroll for a varied portfolio of clients, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and a high standard of client service at all times.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process end-to-end payroll for multiple clients on weekly, fortnightly, and monthly cycles

  • Accurately calculate wages, overtime, bonuses, deductions, and statutory payments

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date payroll records

  • Ensure full compliance with payroll legislation, PAYE, NI, pensions, and employment regulations

  • Prepare and submit statutory payroll filings and reports

  • Manage starters, leavers, payroll amendments, and year-end processes

  • Respond to payroll queries and provide clear, professional advice to clients

  • Reconcile payroll reports and support audits where required

  • Maintain strict confidentiality of payroll and employee data

  • Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes and service delivery

The Successful Candidate:

  • Minimum of 3 years’ payroll experience, ideally within a payroll bureau or professional services environment

  • Strong working knowledge of payroll legislation and statutory compliance

  • Experience using payroll software such as BrightPay, Sage, Xero, or similar

  • Highly accurate with excellent attention to detail

  • Strong organisational and time-management skills, able to manage multiple deadlines

  • Confident communicator with a professional and client-focused approach

  • Competent in Microsoft Excel and Office 365

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Payroll or accounting qualification (e.g. CIPP, AAT, or equivalent)

  • Ongoing professional development in payroll or employment legislation
