Role: Quantity Surveyor

Salary: £50,000 – £60,000 Per Annum

Location: Sheffield (Office-based with occasional site visits)

Hours: 07:30 – 16:00 / 08:00 – 16:30 / 08:30 – 17:00

About the Role

This role is ideal for an intermediate-level Quantity Surveyor with around five years’ experience in quantity surveying. The company is open to candidates who hold a relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying, or a related discipline, as well as those who have gained their expertise through practical industry experience.

The majority of projects are within the civils, groundworks, and general building sectors, so experience within these areas would be highly advantageous.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Cost Management
  • Prepare project budgets and cost plans.
  • Monitor project costs throughout construction.
  • Identify cost savings and value engineering opportunities.
  • Forecast final project costs and profitability.
  1. Measurement and Valuation
  • Measure quantities of work completed.
  • Prepare interim valuations for payment applications.
  • Assess subcontractor valuations and payments.
  • Evaluate variations (changes to the original scope of work).
  1. Contract Administration
  • Interpret contract terms and conditions.
  • Ensure compliance with contractual requirements.
  • Prepare and submit notices related to delays, variations, and claims.
  • Manage contractual risks and obligations.
  1. Procurement and Subcontract Management
  • Obtain quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Analyze tenders and recommend subcontract awards.
  • Prepare subcontract agreements.
  • Monitor subcontractor performance and costs.
  1. Financial Reporting
  • Produce monthly cost reports.
  • Track project cash flow.
  • Monitor profit margins and project performance.
  • Report financial status to senior management.
  1. Claims and Variations
  • Price variations and additional works.
  • Prepare extension of time and loss-and-expense claims when applicable.
  • Negotiate settlements with clients, consultants, and subcontractors.
  1. Final Accounts
  • Agree final accounts with clients and subcontractors.
  • Resolve outstanding commercial issues.
  • Ensure all project costs are accurately recorded and recovered.

Who We’re Looking For:

  • Approximately five years’ relevant industry experience
  • Degree, qualification, or equivalent experience in Quantity Surveying, or a related field
  • Experience within civils, groundworks, or general building projects would be highly beneficial
  • Strong measurement, costing, pricing, and supplier liaison skills
  • Ability to manage a high-volume, fast-paced workload and meet deadlines
  • Organised, proactive, and commercially aware
  • Strong communication skills with the confidence to build effective relationships with colleagues, clients, and suppliers
