Location: Manchester

Salary: £37k – £47k

Working pattern: Full-time, Monday-Friday, Hybrid or remote options available for experienced candidates

The role:

An opportunity has arisen for a Senior to Principal Flood Risk / Hydraulic Modelling Consultant to join an established hydrology and flood risk team. The position offers the chance to work on a wide range of flood risk, hydraulic modelling and water environment projects across the UK, with flexibility around hybrid or remote working for experienced professionals.

You will play a key role in technical delivery, mentoring junior staff, supporting fee proposals and working closely with multidisciplinary teams across multiple office locations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparing risk assessments and undertaking site walkovers and survey works
  • Producing technical reports including Flood Risk Assessments, Environmental Statement chapters, modelling reports and channel survey specifications
  • Undertaking hydrological assessments using industry-standard methodologies and software (FEH, ReFH2, WINFAP)
  • Building, running, stabilising and calibrating hydraulic models using software such as HEC-RAS, TUFLOW, ESTRY and Flood Modeller
  • Consulting with water regulators, statutory authorities and other stakeholders
  • Liaising with clients and providing technical advice
  • Managing time and budgets with guidance from senior management
  • Providing guidance, mentoring and training to junior team members

The successful candidate:

  • 5–7 years’ experience in flood risk, hydrology or hydraulic modelling within a consultancy environment
  • Strong understanding of flood risk and drainage policy and guidance across England, Wales and Scotland
  • Proven experience producing Flood Risk Assessments, modelling reports and water environment Environmental Statement chapters
  • Familiarity with hydrology software including FEH Statistical Analysis, ReFH2 and WINFAP
  • Experience using hydraulic modelling software such as HEC-RAS, TUFLOW, ESTRY and Flood Modeller
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams and liaise with clients and statutory authorities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Qualifications:

  • Degree qualified in Geography, Earth/Environmental Sciences or Engineering
  • Member of or working towards CIWEM chartership
