A recent survey of more than 1000 adults carried out by Cygnet Jobs has found that millennials are the most likely generation to experience workplace stress.
According to the poll, almost three quarters (73%) of 25-35 year olds have recently taken their stress home from work, with 62% saying they’re lost sleep due to their career in the past, and 22% admitting to losing weight over concerns at work.
In comparison, just 9% of people aged 55 and over said they had taken their worries home; 64% of 35-45 year-olds; and 62% of 45-55 year-olds – indicating that happiness in the workplace is higher on the agenda for the older generations.
Rob Shaw, Managing Director at Glu Recruit said: “It’s clear that Millennials are under a lot of pressure, which they occasionally take home with them.
“This could be due to increasing levels of competition amongst that age group and generation Z. Such competition that was less prevalent when the baby boomer generation came into the workforce.
“Whilst these levels of stress are naturally worrying, workplace wellbeing is becoming an ever bigger focus for employers, so in the coming years we will most likely see the number of people affected by workplace stress diminished.
“For any employer, it’s vital to ensure that your employees are equipped with the necessary tools to manage their workloads effectively, and combat stress healthily.
“For employees, it’s important to find ways to blow off steam after work. And if you’re really feeling the pressure, you shouldn’t shy away from considering another position.
“At Glu, our ethos has always been finding the right role for the right candidate, so if you are truly unhappy in your current position, give us a call and we can help you find your happy place.”
