New £80m investment fund launched for UK creative sector

Government announces Creative Industries Sector Deal to boost productivity and job creation in the creative sector.

In a bid to boost productivity and jobs within the industry, a new multi-million pound investment has been announced for the UK creative sector.

The £80m fund will work to combine the world of businesses and academia to support sectors including fashion, broadcast and video games.

Leeds is among the nine cities set to receive research funding to bolster their creative industries. Leading businesses such as Sony, Burberry and Aardman will work with academies within each region to conduct research into ways of improving production by better use of digital technology.

Rob Shaw, Managing Director at Glu Recruit said: “It’s great to see partnerships between business, academia and industry created to improve productivity within the sector.

“The creative industries already bring in £92 billion each year to the UK economy.

“This new funding investment and the development of new technology will both bolster the already booming sector and secure future growth, while also creating job opportunities across the whole of the UK.

“In Sheffield in particular, we’re already seeing new creative start-ups, and existing companies striving for growth within the sector, and recruiting into their expanding teams.  It’s exciting to think where this funding will take the industry.”
