Rotherham Job Market Insights: March 2026 Snapshot

We’re back again, shouting about all the ways in which Rotherham is growing and developing as a great place to work and live.

Our MD, Rob Shaw, recently joined the Rotherham Growth Board, and through this, we’re able to access up-to-date labour market insights that help shape a clearer picture of what’s really happening across the region.

The latest data, from March 2026, highlights a really positive and active market.

In Rotherham alone, there were over 6,000 live vacancies, with the average advertised salary rising to £29,760 – an increase of £640 since February.

Across South Yorkshire, that figure climbs to more than 40,000 vacancies, with salaries averaging £31,040.

Stand out sectors include health & social care, education, retail and production and warehousing.

We’re also seeing a clear shift in what employers are prioritising. We understand that qualifications are paramount for some roles, but we’ve always supported skills-based hiring.

The data shows that the most requested skills are overwhelmingly human with communication, organisation, customer service and leadership all taking the top spot.

This is reflective of what we see every day in recruitment conversations. Employers are looking for people who can add value quickly, adapt and work well with others.

Accessibility is another huge roadblock for many people getting back into work, with lengthy essential experience lists and qualification requirements.

However, this data shows that the majority of the most in-demand roles require GCSE or A-Level education, opening up opportunities for more candidates in the region.

What does this mean for employers?

In a market where demand remains high and salaries are rising, attracting and securing the right talent requires more than ever before. Speed, clarity, and candidate experience are becoming key differentiators.

And for candidates?

It’s a really strong market out there right now. There are plenty of opportunities – especially for people with the right attitude who can show how their skills transfer.

Rob Shaw said, There’s a real buzz around Rotherham at the moment. We’re seeing more opportunities, rising salaries, and businesses pushing forward. Being part of the Growth Board means we get a proper view of what’s happening – and it’s great to be able to share that with our clients and candidates.”

Overall, it’s a really positive picture for Rotherham and South Yorkshire. There’s a lot of momentum, loads of opportunity, and a real sense that things are moving in the right direction – which we love to see.
