Yorkshire business confidence boosts hiring plans

Brilliant news for Yorkshire businesses, job seekers and recruiters alike; an increase in business confidence is boosting recruitment plans among firms in the region.

According to figures released by Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking’s Business Barometer, 23% of Yorkshire businesses expect to hire more staff in the next year, an increase of 15 points since last month.

41% of firms are also reporting higher confidence in their prospects. While optimism in the economy remains steady at 28%. The overall confidence is six points above last month’s figure at 35%.

These figures put Yorkshire and The Humber at joint second position for the most confident regions in the UK. The capital came out on top at 40% followed by Yorkshire, the North West and the North east, all coming out at 35%.

The Business Barometer is a survey of 1200 businesses each month and is an indication of economic trends at a regional and nationwide scale.

Rob Shaw, Managing Director at Glu Recruit said: “The region’s confidence is above the UK average for the first time since March. It’s a great sign not only for job seekers and recruiters, but the region’s economy as a whole.

“Whether it’s Yorkshire grit or a testament to the growth and innovation of local businesses. It is encouraging to see business confidence and hiring plans increase by such a degree.

“We’re already seeing an uptake in businesses looking to hire their next member of staff.”
