Tips for settling back into work after Christmas

We don’t know about you, but we feel like we blinked, and Christmas was over! Settling back into work, after having time off, can be a challenge for so many people and we thought it would be handy to create a handy guide to make this transition easier.

The trick is to not push yourself too hard and get to burn out stage – before the year has even really begun!

Goodbye out of office

This is an easy one to check off your to do list. Make sure any ‘out of office’ automatic replies or messaging is removed as soon as your back.

This will help you avoid missing any important emails or updates and will also let people know that you’re available to be contacted.

Organise your emails

If you’re anything like us, you’ll come back to work with a million emails to sort through. You might be tempted to start at the bottom and work your way up – but we prefer a different approach.

By organising your emails by sender or subject, you’ll be able to decipher which are important and which can wait.

We all know that some people send their emails as important, to just make sure you read it. It’s the oldest trick in the book but sieving through those marked this way is another great place to start.

Tidy desk, tidy mind

You should all be able to relate to the feeling when a room in your house is untidy and you just can’t settle. It’s the same with your desk at work! Christmas has been and gone and your desk may have gotten swept up in the madness of decorations, cards, advent calendars and paperwork.

Decluttering your desk is a great way to create a more relaxed and organised working environment.

Lists are the future

We appreciate that lists aren’t for everyone, but we would strongly recommend kicking the year off with a strong to do list.

This helps you lay out your workload in front of you – so you know what to prioritise.

Focus on one thing

It’s very easy to become overwhelmed when you go back to work after time off. A lot of the time, we want to get as many tasks done as possible which can lead to you can take on too much work at once.

Stick to your hours!

We’re all for being committed when it comes to your work, but it’s important that you ease into it. Be sure to leave on time and take your lunch break, you’re not trying to make up the time you had off over the Christmas period.
