uNetwork: The Right to Disconnect

uNetwork: The Right to Disconnect

We’ve been shouting from the rooftops about the relaunch of our popular uNetwork and our first event will be discussing a very important topic.

Toby Pochron, Director at Freeths LLP, will be joining us as our guest headline speaker to talk about ‘The Right to Disconnect’ and whether this is going to work for British businesses.

Put simply, the Right to Disconnect is the principle that an employee should not be expected to manage calls and emails, or work communications, outside of working hours.

Data collected from Mercer’s Global Talent Trends 2022 Study, shows that of 11,000 respondents, 81% feel at risk of burnout – a huge leap from 63% back in 2019, pre-pandemic.

COVID-19 affected businesses and employees on a global scale, and not just financially but emotionally too.

According to this study, the constant lock downs, outbreaks and social restrictions has led to a spike in symptoms of stress, anxiety and depression.

Employee exhaustion has now been recognised as the number-one risk with six in 10 HR leaders and executives concerned about high employee sickness/absence rates and remote worker fatigue.

Looking after employee wellbeing has never been more important – we’ve heard about hybrid working, agile working and supporting staff whilst they work from home but staff who are not properly rested can become burned out, less productive and suffer poorer mental health. This can lead to issues in retention and morale; things that can be very damaging for an organisation.

Rob Shaw, Managing Director at Glu Recruit, commented on the event, “Not only are we excited to see the relaunch of uNetwork, but we’re also thrilled to have Toby Pochron speaking about such an important topic at our first event.

“We’re looking forward to learning more about how ‘The Right to Disconnect’ may look for British businesses and we’re sure it will lead to a very interesting discussion!”

The first uNetwork event will be held on Wednesday 21st September 2022, 08:30am-11:00am, at Electric Works, Sheffield.
