Rotherham races into top ten growing UK cities

For the first time, Rotherham has placed in the UK’s top ten fastest growing cities with an economic growth rate of 2.2 per cent.

Coming in at tenth place out of 46 towns and cities in the UK Powerhouse study from Irwin Mitchell, Rotherham has also maintained its position as Yorkshire’s fastest growing economy.

In the study, produced in partnership with the Centre for Economics and Business Research, Doncaster placed 11th with 2.2 per cent growth, while Sheffield was at 40th place with 1.5 per cent.

Rob Shaw, Managing Director at Glu Recruit said: “This is brilliant news for Rotherham, and for South Yorkshire as a whole.

“Where some cities are struggling to innovate and grow their economies, Rotherham is coming out on top.

“The Mclaren investment in the Advanced Manufacturing Park is just one example of Rotherham’s growth opportunities, with future prospects looking very promising.

“While Doncaster and Sheffield are further down the list, both cities are growing steadily, and bolstering their well-established economies: Doncaster is growing a thriving start-up community which looks to prosper, and Sheffield’s economy is predicted to grow due to investments from the city’s universities.”
