Stress Management high on agenda for employee benefits

Should employers be prioritising employee wellbeing? According to a recent survey, 35% of employees would prefer stress management as an employee insurance benefit over dental or eye care, with 68% claiming workplace wellbeing initiatives are a deciding factor when choosing between multiple roles.

The 2018 Cigna 360 wellbeing survey of 14,467 employees across 23 countries has revealed that:
  • 87% of employees have workplace stress: 72% reporting it as manageable, 15% reporting it as unmanageable;
  • 49% receive support for workplace stress, but just 28% think the support they receive is adequate for their needs;
  • 35% of employees want access to stress management as an insurance benefit. This is compared to 33% wanting dental benefits, and 28% who want access to eye care benefits;
  • 68% say that workplace wellbeing programmes are important when choosing between two potential employers;
  • 67% of employees will still go to work, even if they are too ill to do so;
  • 26% of employees cite the workplace as the source of their stress.

Rob Shaw, Managing Director at Glu Recruit said: “These recent statistics show that workplace wellbeing is becoming ever more important to employees, not just in the UK but on a worldwide scale.

“The fact that it is a deciding factor for many job seekers when they are considering multiple roles proves that employers should be prioritising employee wellbeing, and ensuring ways for employees to manage their stress levels in order to not only improve productivity, but compete successfully to attract the top talent.”
